Aerospace linkages are controlled applications. The familiar GE..ET 2RS industrial construction is useful for understanding how a PTFE fabric liner and face seals can support low-maintenance oscillation, but an aircraft programme must be selected to the governing drawing, material system, traceability and approval requirements rather than to a generic industrial series name.
Typical aerospace joint locations
- Control-surface and actuator linkages.
- Landing-gear or door mechanisms.
- Engine-mount and accessory linkages where articulated motion is required.
- Flight-control actuator eyes and related pivot connections.
Why PTFE fabric liners are relevant
A PTFE fabric liner creates a maintenance-free sliding interface that does not depend on routine grease delivery. That is attractive in joints with restricted access, but liner pressure, temperature, wear, bonding, dimensional stability and surrounding materials all need to be defined by the programme specification.
What 2RS sealing can and cannot do
Two-side lip seals can protect the bearing faces from debris and moisture, but they are not an aerospace qualification by themselves. Seal material, temperature capability, fluid exposure and installation geometry must be compatible with the exact programme.
Documentation to define early
- Governing drawing and revision.
- Required material and liner specification.
- Dimensional inspection and traceability requirements.
- Required quality-system or programme approvals.
- Environmental, temperature and fluid exposure requirements.
Programme requirements control the bearing
Aerospace bearings are often qualified as part of a specific drawing or procurement specification. That specification can define liner chemistry, bond process, dimensional inspection, proof testing, traceability and approved sources. A commercial GE-style bearing can be useful during early geometry studies, but it should never replace the controlled part merely because the boundary dimensions are similar.
Material compatibility matters
Aluminium, titanium and high-strength steel structures can create different galvanic, thermal and fit behavior around the bearing. The housing material changes stiffness and thermal expansion, while the pin finish affects wear at the bore. These interface details should be included in the programme review.
Traceability is part of the product definition
For controlled aerospace work, the buyer may require material heat identification, inspection records, batch traceability, certificate of conformity and a specific quality-system approval. These are not optional marketing documents; they are contractual requirements that must be confirmed before supply.

- What drawing and revision controls the part?
- What material/liner specification is required?
- What temperature, fluid and corrosion exposures apply?
- What inspection or acceptance tests are mandatory?
- What traceability and certificate package must accompany the bearing?
