
Agricultural machinery subjects pivot joints to seasonal high loads, dust, soil, wash-down water and long storage periods. A bearing that works well in a clean factory can fail quickly in a field linkage if sealing, lubrication and corrosion protection are treated as secondary details.

What makes agricultural service difficult
Abrasive soil can enter the joint around the pin, shock loads can occur when implements hit hard ground, and long off-season storage can leave moisture around the bearing. The maintenance plan is also often seasonal rather than continuous, so grease and seal condition should be checked before the machine returns to work.

Installation and seasonal maintenance
- Inspect pin and housing wear before installing a new bearing.
- Check 2RS lips for cuts, hardening or displacement after muddy service.
- For greaseable joints, service the grease route before the operating season and after contamination events as required by the machine plan.
- Clean exposed joint surfaces before long storage and address corrosion around the pin and housing.
Why bore size is not enough
Two agricultural joints may both use a 25 mm pin but require very different bearings. A compact GE25ES 2RS and a wider GEG25ES 2RS have different outside diameters, widths and load ratings. The bracket drawing decides whether the heavier family can actually fit.
Different agricultural machines stress the joint differently
A tractor three-point hitch sees heavy drawbar and implement forces. A seeder folding mechanism may see lower continuous load but repeated movement and dust. A harvester header linkage can combine vibration, impact and crop residue. Using one bearing family for all three positions because the pin size matches ignores the duty that actually controls wear.
Seasonal storage is part of the environment
Agricultural joints may sit unused for months after being washed or exposed to fertilizer residue. Moisture trapped around the pin can corrode the fit even when the bearing did not accumulate many operating hours. Before storage, clean exposed surfaces and use the machine-approved corrosion protection. Before the next season, inspect for rust, seal damage and blocked grease fittings.
When maintenance-free is attractive
Folding or adjustment points that are difficult to reach can justify comparing GE..ET 2RS or GE..C. The decision still depends on contamination. An open GE..C liner needs a reasonably protected environment, while GE..ET 2RS gives face sealing. In a heavy drawbar pivot with good grease access, a GEG sealed steel/steel bearing may remain the more appropriate route.
